BEAT THE RUSH AND RESERVE A GROUP STUDY ROOM

The library’s group study rooms are a popular place, especially during final exam time.  Because we currently have only 3 group study rooms, it is important for students to follow the policies and procedures governing the use of these rooms.  For example, groups always have precedence over individuals, persons may not “claim” rooms by leaving their belongings, and group time in a room may be limited.  For the full rundown, including information on how you may reserve a group study room, see a library staff member or check the library website at /jsl/library/groupstudy.asp and /jsl/library/policies.asp .

PROFESSIONALISM AND COURTESY HELPS EVERYONE

As final exams approach and people feel more pressured, we can all help reduce stress by being conscious of those around us.  Please remember that there are to be no cell phone conversations anywhere in the library.  We also ask for your cooperation in keeping the second floor (particularly the rear area) as the designated “quiet area.”  The atrium area on the first floor near the library’s entrance is an area where talking in a low voice is permitted.  Please remember that there should (Of course, if you are looking for a quiet area to study, you won’t want to sit near the Library Director’s office!)

PARDON OUR DUST . . . AND CONSTRUCTION NOISE

We apologize for the sounds and smells of the law school construction project.  We know it affects students, because it affects the library staff as well.  When the work is completed, there will be a lot of benefits for students and library patrons.  For example, bathrooms will be added to each floor of the library.  There will additional study space, accompanied by new furniture – including study tables, carrels, chairs, and soft seating.  The library staff offices and work space will be reconfigured into a more logical, usable arrangement.  An additional group study room or two will be created.

More information on the changes will be forthcoming.  In the meantime, we thank you for your patience as these long-awaited improvements are carried out.  If you have questions about the changes occurring in the library, be sure to ask Dean Chinaris or any member of the library staff.

CALI EXERCISES CAN BE A HELPFUL STUDY AID

The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI, for short) offers high-quality online instructional aids for law students.  More than 30 first-year and upper-division course have lessons.  Many professors recommend CALI lessons to their students, but before using CALI students must register.  Go to CALI.org (http://www.cali.org) and create your account.  If you have questions, or need assistance with CALI or other databases, please let us know by visiting or calling (386-7533) the Research Office or emailing us at “JSLReference@faulkner.edu.

Happy Thanksgiving, and best wishes on your final exams!
